I wanted to take a moment and thank you again for coming out to the Haunted Forest, bidding on silent auction items, and supporting your students in their production of The Haunted Forest Carnival. This month and next month, students will begin “The Giving Season”. This fundraiser is run completely by students and allows them to identify local areas of need in our Traverse City community and brainstorm ways to help and give back. Students will be selecting charities to sponsor and coming up with ways in which to do this. The Giving Season will run until Winter Break.

Student Led Conferences:
At Greenspire, conferences are student-led. This means that your student will be showing off all of the projects that they have been completing over the quarter with their advisory teacher there to answer any other questions you may have. We look forward to reflecting on current projects as a community and helping our students set goals for the rest of the school year.
You should have received a signup link yesterday to register for a time to meet on either Thursday night, from 5-8, or Friday from 12:30-3:30. If you did not receive it, please let me know. If you are uncomfortable signing up online, please let me know and I can sign you up manually.
Speech Update:
I want to recognize every single student who did their read-aloud this week, especially noting the fact that the majority of them did them LIVE! To have so many of you do so well while speaking in front of others is the best thing ever for a Speech teacher. Thank you for making my whole week and thank you to family members who offered so much support to them!

A Message from our Superintendent:
Dear Greenspire Middle School Community,
I want to address an incident that occurred on Monday involving a middle school student.
Regrettably, during an outdoor class on Monday, a student approached a small group of students about making a documentary about school shootings. We take any talk of violence very seriously, whether it appears credible or not. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, law enforcement was contacted. After conducting a thorough review of the situation, officers and school administration determined that there was no threat to Greenspire students and staff. The student involved has been disciplined in accordance with the school discipline policy. The parents of the other students approached by this student were contacted to explain what had happened. Had it been determined that this incident represented a credible threat, the Greenspire community would have been notified immediately.
Please know that the safety of our students is our top priority and we will always uphold this commitment. If you have any further questions or concerns about this incident or our ongoing efforts to ensure a safe learning environment, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
