This is your friendly reminder to turn your clocks back tonight as we welcome the end of Daylight Saving Time!

As the quarter wraps up this week, it’s a great opportunity for students to turn in any missing assignments and finish strong. The end of the quarter also gives us a chance to pause, reflect on the growth and strengths each student has shown, and set new goals together for the coming months. Let’s celebrate the progress made so far and look forward to the learning adventures next quarter will bring!

Please take a moment to select a time for your student-led conference with your child’s advisory teacher! These 15-minute meetings allow your student to proudly showcase their learning and achievements while giving you a chance to connect with their advisory teacher. This year, we’ve extended each time slot to allow more meaningful conversations.

In addition to meeting with the advisory teacher, we encourage you to spend an additional 15–30 minutes on campus exploring your student’s recent projects. You’ll have the chance to view ‘Published’ Stances, admire art projects, and see the creative scarecrows students have made. We look forward to celebrating your student’s growth with you!

Greenspire Skis and Rides! On Tuesdays This Winter

The Greenspire Skis and Rides! Afterschool Club would like to invite all Middle and High School students and their families to join us on the slopes at Crystal Mountain. If you would like to sign up for the Greenspire Skis & Rides! Program at Crystal Mountain on Tuesday nights (1/7-2/11) please complete the online waivers and purchase your Pass. Then complete the attached Program Application, by emailing Cristin at hosnpop@gmail.com or dropping off the Program Application to the Office by November 22!  This program includes lift tickets, an option to add rental equipment, meal deals, and six weeks of professional on-hill instruction.  This screaming good deal starts at $105.  We are looking for an additional advisor or parent chaperones. If you are a skier or boarder who wants to ride with our community on Tuesdays, once or all season, reach out to Cristin!

Culture and Counseling:

On November 15, OK 2 SAY will be visiting our school to present to students on how they can play a role in keeping their school and community safe. OK 2 SAY is a confidential program that empowers students to report anything that threatens their safety or the safety of others. Through this presentation, students will learn how to recognize warning signs, respond to potential threats, and seek help when needed—skills that are especially important for middle schoolers as they become more aware of their social and digital surroundings.

Please review the attached form. If you would like your student to opt out of this presentation, complete and return the form to Becky by Wednesday, November 13.

English: We have completed our discussion on immigration in the US, all the while not even realizing that we were practicing becoming informed citizens.  We now know the process of informing ourselves and finding evidence from the right sources.  We will do some reflection in the coming weeks and start looking at breaking down some grammar concepts.  Everyone should still be attempting to read daily outside of school.
Outdoor Education: This week in Outdoor Ed we enjoyed the last of the autumnal splendor, and saw two days over 75 degrees! A record for this time of year. We enjoyed some really big gusts of wind from the orchard and flew kites made of recycled and natural materials. As the quarter winds down, we continue to notice changes in the daylight and try to understand daylight savings time and its end. We enjoyed out last sit spot of the quarter, and look forward to increasingly longer hikes and other winter tidbits. Sustainable Agriculture: Students split into groups and constructed their very own Scarecrows. We reviewed the original purpose and history of a Scarecrow as an agricultural ‘deterrent’. They completed group forms and were asked to problem-solve and find ways to include all the elements that make up a Scarecrow. Students navigated the complexities of an effective Scarecrow, and how to problem-solve to ensure their Scarecrow would withstand weather. The Scarecrow they created with their group will be displayed at conferences with a story they constructed individually to tell the journey and background of the Scarecrow they helped create. 

Students were reminded of how to make up missing work and where they can find the information to complete anything that they have missed or did not turn in.
