I am thrilled to share some exciting personal news—I announced to our students today that my family is growing, and we will be welcoming a baby in September. As we get closer to that time, our incredible leadership team will ensure a smooth transition in my absence starting in September, and I look forward to returning in November.

In other news Maple season is underway at Greenspire! We spent two days boiling the some 45 gallons we’ve collected so far! Our plans are to have a Maple-themed morning with pancake breakfast, syrup tasting, Maple activities and so much more!! If you have small ball jars available (4oz small mouth) , we would love donations to bottle syrup this year.

Old Town Playhouse:

On the heels of a successful musical, many students are looking for their next theatrical opportunity. The Old Town Playhouse is now registering students for summer programs and they have scholarships available. Check out their website for more information and to enroll.

Recently in Advisory, students have engaged in circle discussions that review Greenspire’s Core Rules and Values in order to reset the culture in a positive and collaborative way. Building community and fostering a positive environment for all students is essential to our goal of maximizing student learning and social emotional development. Regretfully, there has been an increase in reported use of offensive language among students and Advisories recently initiated some discussion aimed at educating students about the history of hate speech. This behavior is specifically outlined in the handbook and Greenspire takes it very seriously as it violates all three Core Rules, disrespecting self, others, and the environment. As with any other behavior, students are encouraged to tell a staff member at the earliest opportunity, but we also hope students will be upstanders and tell peers “that’s not okay.” Every individual can make a positive difference and we appreciate you partnering with us in support of a stronger community.

Math: Please visit the Math Website to learn more.

Social Studies: Please visit the Social Studies Website for any updates. Literature: Students have continued to read their novels this week.  These novels and questions need to be done before Spring Break.  If they need more time, they can use SB to finish reading.  We also traveled in Mercadia for our fourth day of our Game On! Game at the end of the week.
Update: The Reading Quarter Quell Challenge has been extended!  Students still have the chance to earn the prizes from reading outside of school for the entire month of March – part of our celebration of National Reading Month!
Sustainable Agriculture: This week in sustainable agriculture, we moved on from focusing on processed foods and shifted gears back towards farming systems. Our primary focus the next 2 weeks will be agroforestry – farming land use systems which prioritize growing crops within already thriving ecosystems such as forests. Students have been tasked with creating a project focusing on one of the three following systems: Alley Cropping, Forest Farming, or Silvopasture.

PE: We are diving into the Mercadia Olympics as part of our school-wide Game On project! Students are competing in various challenges to earn points while developing teamwork, strategy, and physical skills. The competition is heating up!

Health: Our Online Safety unit continues as students research popular websites, identifying potential risks and defining internet safety in their own words. This hands-on approach will help them become more informed and responsible online!

Art: This week we have wrapped up our paper bowl project, and these will be proudly displayed at conferences in April! Next week, we will begin an abstract watercolor project, where students will experiment with color, and movement.
Science:

Students will continue to explore their own genetic inheritance using tools to help them learn how genes are passed on from parent to offspring. They will transition to genetically designing a dragon for their Game On! character.
