Claire Alexander

Literature and Speech Teacher

When I was growing up, I had a lot of passion for different aspects of the world, including people, food, literature, and nature. Having been raised in Northern Michigan, I had a lot of opportunities to learn and adventure indoors and out.  After high school, I was able to develop many of those passions and it brought me to where I am today: teaching at an outstanding school.

My love for food brought me to culinary school.  After I received my culinary degree from Great Lakes Culinary Institute, I had another passion that I wanted to pursue: teaching.  At Central Michigan University, I studied education with a specification in Middle Level Learners.  I did as much learning and experiencing as I could when it came to working with young adolescents. Being able to become part of The Greenspire School teaching team after I graduated was more than I could have ever hoped.  The involvement with the environment and the community is unlike most schools in the area, and I have been lucky to encourage students as they learn and grow.

I have proudly directed musicals for Greenspire Productions for the past few years. This experience allows me to be creative and influential, though I think the cast and crew inspire and teach me more than I do them.

My life today includes doing anything outdoors, especially with my dogs, enjoying all that Northern Michigan has to offer, traveling, reading, cooking and eating, going to my rustic cabin in Grayling, kayaking, and spending time with my wonderful family.
