Philip Rosi

Outdoor Physical Education and Health Teacher

My journey to the Greenspire community was certainly unique, and I am delighted to be here!  I grew up in Traverse City, with summers in Old Mission spent sailing and swimming, and winters skiing in the local area.  After graduating from TC High in 1988, I joined the U.S. Navy and shipped off to Boot Camp and technical training as an avionics technician.  After a stint fixing airplanes, I attended the University of Michigan, where I earned a B.A. in German Language and Literature.  I was also commissioned as a Naval Officer and spent another 27 years in a variety of missions at sea and ashore, primarily as a Navy Public Affairs Officer.  I was fortunate to travel around the world for both Navy missions and for vacations, and to live overseas in Naples, Italy, with my family.

Upon retirement from active service in 2022 and subsequent relocation back to my hometown, I sought a new chapter that would allow me to both give back to my community and find a fulfilling “second chapter.” When I joined Greenspire as a guest teacher, I quickly discovered that this is an incredible organization, led by an inspiring team of professionals dedicated to the school’s mission.  I was honored to accept the job of Outdoor Physical Education and Health teacher in December 2025.

I have led, trained, and guided Sailors all around the world. The Navy taught me a wide range of personal and professional lessons, and I am thrilled to bring these life experiences to Greenspire. I love my mission of helping our students become “Lifelong Healthy People.” One of the key values the Navy instilled in me is the importance of maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle.  I am a strong proponent of personal wellness, no matter your age, and that is how I live my life.  I am an active yoga practitioner and martial artist, and I enjoy strength training and cycling.  I also love hiking and exploring this beautiful area with Elton, my German Shepherd (aka The Adventure Dog).
