Dear Greenspire Community,

As we get closer to spring break and the end of the quarter, we wanted to share a reminder about the supports available to help students stay on track.
We are committed to supporting your child’s learning and helping them build confidence as they grow and find success in school. We understand that students may sometimes fall behind in classwork due to absences, tardies, or everyday challenges, and we want families to know that support is available.

Students can receive help during Open Work Time, a 45-minute weekly opportunity to get support on assignments or projects. Students with a failing grade attend Success Lab each week for 30 minutes to receive targeted help with missing or incomplete work. Additionally, students may eat lunch in the Math Lab on Wednesdays and Thursdays for extra support from our math teacher.

If your child comes home with math homework that they were not able to complete during the school day and needs additional support at home, families can use the following math support website to help guide them: Math Website.

We also encourage students to practice self-advocacy by asking questions and seeking help when needed. When students take advantage of available support and speak up about their needs, it helps them stay engaged and succeed in their learning.

As we approach the end of the quarter, these supports are a great opportunity for students to complete missing work, strengthen their understanding, and finish the term feeling confident in their progress. Thank you for partnering with us to help students take advantage of these opportunities.

Handy Help Search:

Hello!

I am in need of some assistance with a turntable (lazy susan) we ordered for our 3D printer. I’m looking for someone who has the tools and would be able to fashion a round, wooden platform to attach to the turntable. Please reach out if you might be able to help. kris.galoci@greenspireschool.org The dimensions are 17″ inner diameter, 18 1/4″ diameter between the two rings, and a 19 3/4″ outer diameter. See images below.

Project Updates and Staff Email Addresses:

Please feel free to reach out to staff if you have any questions!

We are starting to wrap up our realistic fiction novel reading time in class.  The goal is to start looking at themes from our books and from other media to compare and contrast. Starting next week, students will be able to check books out to read outside of school to make sure they have time to finish them!

The sap runneth over! And the first gallon of syrup is boiled. Spring fever over here, a lovely icy forest floor perfect for slipping and sliding. We learnt how to fall properly by tucking our chins, bending our knees, and picking a cheek! Not your face!! 🙂

We have heard chickadees and titmice in the forest, enjoyed some cold and sunny sit spots, and generally soaked up the first week of March. We look forward to pushing buds, more melting snow and more Greenspire Olympic events!

This week we made sure all athletes have participated in desired events like seal hop, Kneel Jump, Eskimo Stick Pull, Reverse Limbo, Wobble, and wrist carry!

It has been such fun. Students receive points for each win for their advisory with podium winners receiving awards during closing ceremonies later this quarter.

Find assignment due dates, project updates, and vocabulary practice on our Social Studies Class Website. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me.

Snacks Needed:

Our front desk is currently in need of high-protein snacks for students. Items such as granola bars, protein bars, trail mix, peanut butter crackers, or other individually wrapped options are especially helpful.

If you’re able to donate, we would greatly appreciate your support. These snacks make a big difference for students who need a quick boost during the day.

Thank you for your continued generosity and care for our school community!

PSAT for 8th Graders:

All 8th-grade students in the state of Michigan are required to take the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test). This assessment is part of the state’s mandated testing program and provides helpful information about students’ academic progress and readiness.

While this is an important and required assessment, it is just one measure of student growth. We encourage families to help students prepare by ensuring they get a good night’s rest, eat healthy meals, and arrive at school on time and ready to do their best. A calm, positive start to the day can make a big difference.

Additional information may be sent home soon with your child that will need to be reviewed and signed. Please keep an eye out for those materials.

As always, thank you for your partnership and support!
