LOC Update:

We had a very successful trip to the Leelanau Outdoor Center with many new friendships forming, leaders emerging, and teamwork on full display. It was wonderful to see our students out of their element and helping each other through all different types of obstacles. We hope to see these qualities continue throughout our year. If your student is missing items, please have them check the lost in found as a number of items were left behind when we departed LOC.

One of our takeaways from LOC is to push each other to be the best version of ourselves. We would love to continue to have our students focus throughout the year and hearing this message at home would be greatly appreciated.

Pizza Wednesday is Back:

Every Wednesday, students will have the opportunity to purchase pizza from That’s a Pizza during lunch. Students do not order pizza in advance. Each slice is 2 dollars and students have a choice of cheese, pepperoni, or gluten-free cheese. Students must pay with cash each Wednesday as we do not have lunch accounts for students. Unfortunately, we cannot cover students if they forget their money.

Greenspire in the Commons Fundraiser:

We are excited to announce our first fundraiser of the year:

Greenspire in the Commons September 28

Tickets are for adults 21+. To purchase tickets, please visit our website: Tickets
Raffle tickets will be available in person at the event. We look forward to seeing you there and getting to know our greater community better.

A message from our wonderful PTO:

The Greenspire PTO has partnered with Father Fred, Step Up Northern Michigan, Goodwill Food Rescue, and Northwest Food Coalition to offer assistance to Greenspire students in need of food support. Collaborating with these organizations, the PTO and school can offer a variety of options for families in need.

Weekly take-home option discreetly distributed at school (off-site pick up and special needs delivery may be arranged) Father Fred participates in a nationwide program called Blessings in a Backpack. Each week volunteers prepare bags to go in students’ backpacks at school. Each bag is filled with foods that are easy for students to prepare (ramen, canned soups, instant oatmeal, granola bars etc..) along with fresh produce. https://www.blessingsinabackpack.org/

Step Up Northern Michigan is a 501 ( c ) 3 that focuses on helping At-Risk youth in our area. This organization stocks the daily in-school pantry available to students by request with both occasional and longer-term snack or lunch needs.

Goodwill Food Rescue rescues, harvests, repacks, and distributes 2 million pounds of food annually. This organization allows the PTO to offer occasional special items to the school pantry and for distribution directly to families throughout the year. Examples of items available last year include apples, loaves of bread, muffins, eggs, carrots and cheese sticks. A PTO volunteer or school staff member would reach out to interested parties with specifics on quantities and pick-up/delivery options as these items become available. Holiday and special circumstances baskets can also be requested.

These organizations offer these resources to our school with no qualifications or income guidelines. Please reach out to school counselor Robin Roche, robin.roche@greenspireschool.org or PTO members Rose Zivkovich, rosezivkovich@gmail.com and Stephanie Slawnik, saslawnik@mac.com if you’d like more information on these or other community resources to help.

Thank you all for your continued support.
