Kelly Francisco
I spent most of my childhood enjoying small town life in Elk Rapids, Michigan, eventually graduating from Elk Rapids High School. Like most young adults from small towns I was eager to leave, and attended Grand Valley State University where I earned my B.S. in Education with a minor in Social Studies. During my college career I was able to study abroad in Egypt. Later travel in Thailand and Europe developed my real world interest in geography and history.
I began my teaching career in sunny Fort Lauderdale, FloridaI teaching at an Urban Academy Program specializing in teaching at risk children in urban environments. I spent the next six years teaching in this program at Lauderdale Manors Elementary School. I also used this time to earn my M.A. in Reading and Literacy Instruction from Nova Southeastern University April, 2009.
In the summer of 2011 I returned to Northern Michigan and began working at the Greenspire School in its inaugural year. I have worn many hats at the school and enjoy working closely with both students and staff. As a social studies teacher I enjoy sharing my extensive travel experiences and love of history with my students. Greenspire’s use of Project Based learning and hands on education make every day an adventure. It is an exciting place to teach and learn! I feel honored to be a part of the Greenspire vision.
