Darrin Bergman

Hello, Greenspire! In the past few years, I’ve furthered my teaching career through life experiences that have taken me around the world. Now, I’m happy to be back to the place I feel most at home: Northern Michigan.

I grew up splitting my time between Mt. Pleasant, and Boyne City, Michigan. My family has a strong connection to education; my mother was a teacher and school administrator and my grandparents on both sides were teachers. I attended Mt. Pleasant High School and completed my bachelor’s degree at Northern Michigan University before student teaching at Greenspire Middle School in the fall of 2021. This school has a special place in my heart and I’m truly grateful to return as a full-time teacher.

After completing my student teaching at Greenspire, I embarked on a period of adventure abroad with my best friend, surfing and sailing between Fiji and Australia and completing a solo cycle tour from north to south across New Zealand on a very second-hand bike. I spent the better part of a year living on my boat in Sydney Harbour and teaching in various schools around the city. I returned to Michigan in the summer of 2023.

In my free time, you can find me on my bike, sailing between the bays, telemark skiing, and surfing the Great Lakes. I love to read memoirs and funny novels.

I’m excited about our time together and look forward to learning alongside all of my students.
