Katie Butera

Physical Education and Health Teacher

Back when I was in middle school, we had an elective class that required all students to complete a career “interest inventory” upon entering and leaving middle school. Somehow I managed to save these inventories years later. As a 6th grader, I wanted to play in the WNBA (I was NOT baller but I loved to play), and as an 8th grader, I wanted to be a physical therapist that used music for healing (no joke, I really wrote that). I’m glad I kept these inventories as I never would have remembered what middle-school Katie wanted to be.

I am so thankful that several years later, I chose to pursue physical education, as it’s a great balance of ‘play’ and ‘therapy’, especially at The Greenspire School. The nature (no pun intended) of PE at Greenspire is that of connecting with others and enjoying healthy movement in the beautiful outdoors.  It gives me great joy to see students enjoying their time with each other and practicing wellness (hiking, exploring, socializing, observing) that they can return to throughout their lives.

In my spare time I enjoy connecting with friends and family, riding mountain bike trails with my husband, running with my dearly loved springer spaniel Luna, and enjoying various hobbies including art, reading, and gardening.
