Google Classroom – Extended Classroom

Earlier this year as a result of the pandemic, our teachers created an Extended Google Classroom for students that we were required to miss school due to quarantine or isolation.  We are continuing this program through the end of the school year for COVID-19 related absences, but it can be used for other extended absences of more than three days so students will not fall too far behind in their classes.  Students are still marked absent (excused or unexcused), but it at least helps them stay up to date on any missed assignments or work while on a trip or out of school for other illnesses.  If you would like more information regarding this opportunity, please let the front desk know when you report absences that are more than three days in duration.

Parent Teacher Conferences – Reminder from last week…

Parent teacher conferences for the second semester are Thursday, April 14th from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Friday, April 15th from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm.

Based on parent feedback from parent teacher conferences over the past couple of school years, we are adopting a new format for the spring that is more inline with Greenspire AND  most importantly, it will also make your life a lot easier by being able to schedule a single appointment.

We will move to a student-led conference format for Thursday, April 14th evening session.  Students and and their parents/guardians will meet with the student’s Advisory teacher.  Students will lead the conference and go through each of their classes to report on their performance.  During the week of April 4th, you will sign-up for a student-led conference time via Sign-Up Genius.  You will receive the link from me to do so that morning.  The Friday afternoon session will move to a drop-in format where you can meet with individual teachers if you have any lingering questions from the student led conference the previous evening.  No appointments are made during this Friday afternoon session and it will look very similar to parent-teacher conferences in the past.  This session will begin at 1:30 pm and end promptly at 3:30 pm, so please arrive early if you plan to meet with multiple teachers.

I have had the pleasure of working in two middle schools that used student-led conferences in the past.  They have always been met with positive feedback from parents/guardians as it makes the student even more accountable for their own progress and it allows the student to report directly to you their areas of success and areas of improvement.

Stay tuned for the Sign-Up Genius link that will be sent the morning of April 4th.
