We have had quite a busy week. On Wednesday, while 8th graders took the PSAT, the 6th and 7th graders worked in collaboration with the Grand Traverse Conservation District and planted over 200 trees at Jacks’s Landing off Cass Rd.

On Thursday, 6th and 7th grade students were able to see the night sky during the day, thanks to the Sleeping Bear and the National Park Service’s portable planetarium! Rangers from Sleeping Bear came to the Greenspire School Campus and students were able to witness an unobstructed view of the night sky, various constellations, the north star and even a solar eclipse from the comfort of a tent! Students learned about what various constellations represented to the Anishinaabe people and the story of how the animal-inspired configurations entered the night sky, how to follow and find the north star as a means of finding your way, the effects of human-introduced light and hindrance of light pollution on viewing the night sky, and many other astronomical facts, all while viewing these things in real-time. Thank you to Sleeping Bear and their rangers for making this star-gazing experience possible.

Our 8th graders visited Munson in partnership with Beckman Coulter to explore the future of medicine, including careers in medicine, the business side of medicine, and medical engineering. This hands-on experience provided valuable insights into potential career paths and allowed students to start planning for their future. Special thanks to Lisa Migazzi at MIStem for arranging this enriching opportunity!

Today, our students began the day with an engaging presentation from Bill at Turtle Survival Alliance, delving into the fascinating world of turtles and tortoises. Later, we hosted an inspiring Women in Aviation Careers Forum, connecting students with women professionals from across the U.S. to explore careers in flight.

We encourage you to discuss all of these enriching experiences with your students. A large thank you to Kris Galoci and our special guests and panelists for their invaluable contributions to these events!
