Wow! What an incredible first week we have had at our middle school. I have been beyond impressed with our students during these first few days. The amount of teamwork, empathy, and compassion they are already showing for one another is one of the things that make Greenspire such a wonderful place to come to every day. Next week is a busy week as Greenspire Middle School heads to Leelanau Outdoor Center on Wednesday and Thursday. Please see the important information below.
Important Leelanau Outdoor Center Information:
Monday the 11th: Please drop off any medication needed for LOC at the school by 3:30. We will need Tuesday to package and label all medications for our trip. If there is an issue getting it to us by Monday, please let us know ASAP. If you are bringing separate food due to allergies, we would like to have this by Monday as well, but Tuesday at the latest.
Wednesday the 13th: Students are to be dropped off at Greenspire between 7:30 and 7:45 a.m. so that we can arrive at camp on time. We will not be able to wait for late arrivals.
Thursday the 14th: Students will arrive back to Greenspire’s campus in time for the normal 3:30 carline. Expect tired students on your ride home.
Packing for LOC:
Currently, they are calling for cooler temperatures and rain, so please make sure your student has rain gear as well as warm clothing. Everything students bring, they must carry to their cabins which can be a bit of a walk, so if you have a student that wants to bring their entire closet, remind them that they have to carry everything. The essential supplies are listed below:
- Warm hat that will cover your ears
- Gloves/mittens
- 2 pair of shoes, 1 close-toed and 1 that can get wet.
- Rain gear is a must
- 1-2 heavy sweatshirt, sweater, or fleece pullover
- 1-2 pair warm long pants
- 2 pair warm winter socks (preferably wool or wool blend)
- 1-2 long sleeve shirt, sweatshirt, or turtleneck
- 1 T shirts
- Pajamas
- Daily change of underwear
- Swimsuit
- Bath towel and washcloth
- Toothbrush/toothpaste
- Shampoo
- Comb/brush
- Sleeping bag or bedroll (2-3 blankets and sheets)
- Pillow and pillowcase
- Water bottle
- Flashlight (optional)
- Pencils and notebook (optional)
- Camera (optional)
Cell phone reception is minimal at LOC due to its remote location. If you need to get ahold of us for an emergency while we are at LOC, please call: 231-334-3808.
Other General Greenspire Reminders:
All students must have a change of clothes, rain gear, indoor shoes, outdoor shoes, and water bottles daily at Greenspire. If you are in need of any of these items, please let office@greenspireschool.org know so that we can assist.
