8th Grade Fake-A-Day at Greenspire High School

As part of our 8th grade transition to high school, students will attend a Fake-A-Day at Greenspire High School on Friday, January 16.

Arrival & Transportation Details:

  • Please plan to drop your 8th grader off at the high school between 8:00-8:30 a.m.
  • Students should not be dropped off at the middle school that morning.
  • Students will be bused back to the middle school around lunchtime.

To support students during this experience, several middle school staff members will be traveling with the 8th graders to the high school and will ride the bus back to the middle school with them.

This experience gives students a valuable preview of the high school environment, schedule, and expectations. More information about Greenspire High School can be found here!

Willy Wonka Jr. Update:

Please read the email that Claire sent about the happenings with the musical!  Lots going on as the show is only 9 weeks away

Success Lab:

Success Lab has begun as a dedicated space for students to catch up, get organized, and strengthen their understanding in classes where they need extra support. Each week, students who are currently failing one or more classes will meet on Wednesdays to complete missing assignments. Participation will replace one of their weekly electives until they reach a passing grade in the course(s). Our goal is to ensure every student feels confident and back on track in their learning.

Attendance Reminder:

If your child will be absent or tardy, please call 231-421-5905 and leave a message on the attendance line. You are also welcome to email us at Office@greenspireschool.org. If your child is missing school due to an appointment, please provide a doctor’s note so the absence can be medically excused.

We jumped right back into our “Forming My Future” project this week.  We are finishing step four, which is a chance to compare two of the occupations that we researched and make a judgement on which one seems like it might fit better in the future.  The Occupation Research and Occupation Comparison assignments are due this week.  The last time students can turn in assignments for Quarter 2, including the final product, will be Friday, January 23.

Parents, please take a moment to visit our  Social Studies Class Website for the latest updates. You’ll find Project 1 photo galleries, Project 2 details, our Quarter 2 assignment calendar with due dates, and the full quarterly vocabulary list. All Semester One social studies work is due by Thursday, January 22, 2026. The website is the best place to stay informed about what we’re learning and creating in class. Thanks for staying connected!

As we move through completing the 2nd quarter project, students will begin to transition to our 3rd quarter project as well.  Next week students will participate in a final lab for the current project exploring the properties of electromagnetic radiation (light). They will also be learning how text, image, and sound information is converted into a digital signal. We are also excited to begin a soft introduction to the 3rd quarter project  kick off at the end of the month. Greenspire students will be volunteering for the annual Special Olympics State Competition events that are held in Traverse City as we move into the whole school, cross curriculum project The Spirit of Inclusion: The Olympics Past, Present, and Future. We will be working to prepare students for this impactful event over the next couple of weeks.

This week in Global Studies, students completed work on their River Valley Civilization Canva infographics. Following completion of that assignment, each pod moved on and began work on a model of a river valley civilization house of their choice using cardboard, construction paper, and clay. The students will pair these models with their Canva presentation and explain them to their classmates in the coming weeks!
